The Ailing Country!

This morning, while on my way to a breathtaking lovely morning walk, (oh yes, I have to mention - the Bangalore University Campus is the place to be for walks/jogs) I noticed a buffalo and it's calf standing mid way while it's herd was nowhere in sight. They usually go grazing as a pack everyday on the same stretch. And believe you me, they take the footpath! Nope, I ain't exaggerating. They walk the stretch till they know where to stop by in a line on the foothpath. So much for "civilization"!

Anyway, an hour later, on my way back, I noticed that the calf was sitting, almost curled like it was sleeping. And the mother was not looking fine too, given her baby was down. She was occasionally shoving her to make her/him get up. And I'm not sure for how long had she tried. When it seemed like it wasn't working, she literally started looking at people who were busy brisking away, filling their lungs with fresh air, with drops of sweats flowing down, happy with a sense of satisfaction in their minds. Mind you, it's a pretty long stretch for you to visibly see quite a distance.

But someone needed help there! No one saw! And the poor mother who couldn't speak. How hard it must've been for her.

The point I am driving home is why are we becoming a country full of bystanders? Or rather so selfish, that it's 'me, myself and whatever one's name is!'

Although I did my bit to help the calf, per my capacity and was happy with the response I received where I sought help, a thought lingers.

Where and what are we heading towards?

I would also appeal, for you to think, that I'm not trying to show off but was just being normal. If you felt the other way around, then look what normalcy has become at times like these. Normal seems alien, in the 21st century!

I must also mention that this act was inspired by another good samaritan, who had once nursed an ailing cow which was not his. He was one of those milkman in the vicinity.

As parting lines, with no intent to show off again, and with a sense of apathy all I can say is, It's only when you feel responsible for everything around you, the country will prosper. Passing the buck is what we are doing today. The day we stand up for all injustice, distress and disharmony, then we might see some light. With the way things are heading, we are either marching towards tyranny or catastrophe!

Think about it!

P.S.: If you would like to hear my opinion about the beef controversy, all I would say is it's ecology at the end of the day. Each animal (humans included) gets to choose what it eats. If we all eat grass, we are doomed. We if all eat meat, we are doomed!
