Humility It Is!
If you are one of those who has grown up watching cricket in
a cricket frenzy nation, you would certainly have a cricketer you would die
for, metaphorically atleast.
And today as he walked away, to end an outstanding career of
his, what was truly appealing was his humility towards life – made up by his
family & friends who fuelled his passions & desires and all those who touched his life.
Its striking to me that I have been pondering a lot over the aspect of humility these days, in people around me, and what an exemplary visual run was it to watch it on television today. :)
Success doesn’t come to one easily. When it does, it brings along
a lot of perks with it. Good and bad.
Appealing & ugly sides to it. The balance that one strikes to savour success is what defines a person.
More often than not, its an human disposition to take things for
granted when one starts achieving things in life. We do not stop to gauge the
intensity or speed with which we are traversing until something knocks us down.
On a brighter side, that’s unassumingly an alarm that we are
deflecting off the intended track. It could be arrogance, selfishness, jealousy,
ego, a feeling of superiority and the likes. Neither of these would serve the
purpose of having a joyful ride. These are just the additional perks of
success. The choice is ours!
What amuses me these days is that, how difficult is it for
people to stay humble. The best part of humility is to just stay grounded. How
easy! But that seems to be the least found quality in the world or atleast from what I can sense around.
A lot of my conversations
with family, friends & colleagues these days are revolving around how technology
or the ease of having everything at one's disposal is changing the newer
generations. I secretly thank the era I was born in, where we witnessed a
greater part of actual life in comparison with the later ones. Staying connected with family & friends was
not an obligation but a way of life. In a country with a gradually growing
economy, supporting each other was not a burden but responsibility. Everything
we saw, sensed and lived with, had value – materialistic or otherwise. That
seems to be slowly fading away.
You do not lose a dime if you smile at that person you know.
You do not lose a dime if you ask someone how is he/she doing. You do not lose
a dime if you spend few minutes of your time over a meal or drink (Well,
depends on who pays!! :D). You do not lose a dime if you give a helping hand to
those who need it. You do not lose a dime if you are thankful to all the people
who have made you who you are and who constantly support & stand by you in
every cause you believe is possible. We are a symbiotic world and at times we turn a blind eye to the fact that our actions could affect somebody else somewhere, either positively or negatively. Its wonderful that we have so much to choose from and the options & opportunities to bring them to life is immense.
With time, with money, with days, the values of life are getting to the books. Let it not get to a state where our children will have to learn them only from books and not by
sensing them around us. That is the fear!
I have always believed that the world is a small place. What I missed out was that it has too many people in it too! Reach out, be nice, stay warm and let people in because we have a lot to share & learn in this journey of ours before we eventually fade out. There will still be a chance to live!
Echoing his words and the soul of his speech - we are nothing without our near and dear ones.
Stay humble! Stay connected! :)
P.S: My favourite will always be "The Wall!", forever and ever!
